Gal Pal Pics, the female equivalent of Buddy Comedies, are usually about female empowerment, which is probably why they scare men unless they feature lots of bikini shots and cleavage-tees (see Charlie’s Angels.) While a romance may sneak in there somewhere, the main focus of a gal pal pic is friendship. Unlike the Rom-Com, however, Gal Pal Pics don’t require a happy ending, and occasionally stray into Tear-Jerker territory.
Gal Pal Pics can also be downright hilarious, blurring the line between chick flick and mainstream movie. When attempting to categorize a film as a Gal Pal Pic, keep in mind that they a) star women, b) showcase the women learning to fend for themselves, and c) make men the enemy. If you’re hoping to understand what this ‘feminism’ fad is all about, this might be the right genre for you – or if you’re looking for ammunition, ladies, to arm yourselves against assaults on your intelligence, and just don’t have the time to sit down and watch all these movies with your hectic schedule, enjoy.
