The Fashion Film is all about showcasing haute couture, and when it’s not just about the clothing, it’s about the sex. Fashion films frequently feature radical makeovers, and rely almost completely on glamor to disguise the fact that there’s very little in the way of plot, which is surprising considering a large number of fashion films are based on Chick Lit.
But that’s an over-generalization. There are actually a number of substantive movies that when forced into a category fall under the Fashion Film umbrella. Usually they involve an obsession with ‘the good life,’ an envy of the rich and famous, and numerous mistaken identities. Romance is almost always a subplot.
Warning: no matter how much a woman oohs or aahs over the outfits in these movies it’s unlikely she would actually wear them, especially in public.
